Sex Vs Sexuality

What we have seen in the last posting on sexuality is sex-related behavioural responses of male and a female. Definitely these responses are further subjected to and governed by the cultural heritage of the society concerned. It differs from society to society. Hence social norms are very important in dealing with these behavioural patterns.

Here I have to explain what cultural heritage is. Each society has its own religious convictions and traditional concepts followed on that. Cultural heritage is nothing but the sum total of religious prospects and traditional concepts.

There is no doubt that Individuals have bio-emotional needs, which are very important for the specific behaviour of them. We know that every society has specific socio-cultural patterns. As such social norms are the product of compromise between the bio-emotional needs of the individual and the existing socio cultural patterns in the society.

This basic explanation clearly endorses that sexuality is a much broader term than sex, which denotes only gender, which we have seen earlier.
