New dress, sweets and firecrackers are the
three main items that brings happiness among people during Diwali. You may be

country in the places like cities, towns and even villages burst crackers at
the time of Diwali. More specially youngsters enjoy the festival by bursting
firecrackers for a long time. To our surprise the entire villagers of one village in the southern Tamil Nadu do not burst firecrackers during Diwali. Bursting of firecrackers is
totally banned in that village not only for Diwali but also during weddings, temple
festivals and funerals. As such people in the village strictly follow this ban
for the past three decades. There is absolutely no noise pollution and no air pollution. It is
strange to observe this phenomenon. Is it not?
What is that village and why is that ban on bursting of firecrackers?
You may be eager to know the
answers for these questions. Yes, the great village is called 'KOLLUKUDIPATTI' situated
on the Madurai-Karaikudi highway. A very famous oldest bird sanctuary 'VETTANGUDI' is also
situated in that village. It is a great haven for birds of most types and
even for migrant varieties. The birds live here peacefully building nests, lay
eggs and rearing young ones without any disturbance and threat. One can find
very rare birds that flocked here from distant places because of this peaceful
atmosphere. Definitely one can enjoy the atmosphere prevailing here and sight
seeing place. Hence it is an enjoyable tourist place for bird-lovers.
