New visitors to the famous Telangana vultures habitat

New visitors to the famous Telangana vultures habitat

Griffon
On December 24, a couple of Himalayan griffon vultures supposed to be long-distance fliers landed down atop a ledge near the top of Palaz-Rapu cliff situated in the famous vulture habitat in the Penchikalpet forest range in Telangana’s  Asifabd district. The sight of the birds was reported by M. Ravikanth, field biologist. He said that the scavenger birds are making a rare presence at the Indian long billed vulture habitat.  He further added that Peddavagu stream is running nearby the habitat and joins Pranahita river flowing closely. Hence this habitat is a favourite place for such type vultures.

Winter migration
Mr. M. Raja Ramana Reddy, Kagaznagar divisional forest officer observed that it is a rare instance of the huge birds of this type of fliers from the north being sighted in the southern parts of India. The birds arrival at this habitat could be associated with winter migration to the south from north as these birds are known to be long-distance fliers. He has confirmed that four such birds have been sighted in the south so far.

Interesting fete
It is an interesting fete to the bird lovers to watch such Himalayan griffon fliers migrated from north to south due to severe winter climatic conditions.
